Today’s Gospel reading (Luke 6:46-7:1) reflects on the fact that our faith must be based on a foundation of following God’s will. God has provided everything we need in our lives and asks us simply to return a portion to Him, through our Stewardship. Further reflection on God’s will includes:
St. Cyril of Alexandria
If therefore we call Christ, the Saviour of us all. Lord, let us do the things which He says. For He teaches us Himself what the benefit is of our being willing to do that which is commanded: and what the loss of our refusing to obey: for He says, “Every one that heareth My words and doeth them, is like a man who builds a house, and firmly places its foundations upon the rock:” while he who does not obey, he also is like a man building a house, but who has taken no care for its stability.
And St. Theophan the Recluse
Sit and reflect upon the Lord and upon yourself; what is the Lord and what are you? Think about what the Lord has done for you and still does for you, why you live and how it will end. You will immediately come to the conviction that there is no other way than to steadfastly fulfill the Lord’s entire will.
